Our Partnership with PAC

  • What is PAC?

The Pediatric Aids Coalition (PAC) is a student run organization through UCLA that we have partnered with to better serve our children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS. These are individuals interested in making an impact on our youth and children through mentorship day camps, beach days, life skills retreats, tutoring, and other programs focused on empowering our youth. We are honored to be partnering with students as committed to empowering children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS as we are. THANK YOU PAC!

  • Their Cause

Children at risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV are extremely vulnerable in utero, during childbirth and when breastfeeding. Without treatment, the chance of an HIV+ mother infecting her child can be up to 45%. Today, with the help of antiretroviral medications and proper care during childbirth, doctors are able to reduce the chance of mother-to-child transmission to less than 2%.

Pediatric HIV/AIDS is a unique facet of the AIDS pandemic because it is highly preventable. In 1988, nearly 2,000 children were infected with HIV every day. While progress has been made, due to a lack of resources, over 400 children continue to be infected every day. By educating the community, raising capital and combatting the stigma surrounding the virus, PAC is taking an active role in the solution. Together, let’s make an imPACt!

  • PAC Mentorship Programs

The Laurel Foundation is excited to announce our ongoing partnership with the Pediatric AIDS Coalition of UCLA. This partnership hosts 4 Mentorship Day Camps and one weekend retreat for youth ages 8-17 affected by HIV/AIDS.

Mentorship events are geared toward children (ages 6-18) affect by HIV/AIDS, whether through their own experience or the experience of a family member. These are daytime events hosted by members of PAC on UCLA’s campus and around Los Angeles. The purpose of these events is to give children a chance to spend time in a safe space with others that may be experiencing a similar journey. Activities include scavenger hunts, picnics and BBQs, visits to the UCLA campus and excursions in the greater Los Angeles area. They are free for participants and include transportation, meals and group discussions!

  • PAC Life Skills Retreat - May 17-19 2024

Life Skills Retreat is a weekend-long retreat starting at UCLA and ending at a mountain retreat. Led by PAC members, it is catered toward young adults transitioning from high school to adulthood. This program aims to give attendees the opportunity to connect with others on a similar path, while learning skills helpful in preparing for life as a young adult. The retreat is free for participants and includes transportation, meals and group discussions.

  • PAC Tutoring

Tutoring sessions are held throughout the year for our children and youth to get some individual help on any homework or classwork they have. Whether it be math, science, reading, or even preparing for a job interview or college applications, PAC can offer support in every subject! Join us for their next tutoring session!
