State-Mandated ReporterTraining and Live Scan Background Checks
As of January 1, 2024, a new California State law was in effect. AB 506 requires all Employees, Registered Adult Volunteers, and Regular Volunteers (age 18 or older) who have more than 16 hours a month (or 32 hours per year) of contact with a youth to complete a Live Scan background check (the digital version of inked fingerprinting) and two hours of State Mandated Reporter Training (provided by the State).
This means that all staff and volunteers will have to complete the new Live Scan background check process and State Mandated Reporter Training. With the introduction of Live Scan background checks, all volunteers will only have to complete their Live Scan background check once regardless of how many years they volunteer with us.
LIVE SCAN BACKGROUND CHECKS
The fee for a LIVE SCAN is $120, which will be automatically billed to and paid for by The Laurel Foundation. Individual Live Scan locations may charge an additional service fee, so please call ahead. You can Google Live Scan locations to find the location near you or refer to this link.
You MUST take this pre-filled form with the information for The Laurel Foundation account on it as required by The Department of Justice. This exact form must be completed by applicants and given to the provider at the time of service.
We ask that volunteers be fully committed to camp before submitting their Live Scan as each one is a significant cost to The Laurel Foundation.
REQUIRED STATE MANDATED REPORTER TRAINING
The mandated reporter training is met by completing the 2-hour online training provided by the Office of Child Abuse Prevention in the State Department of Social Services at this link.
All Volunteer positions and Employees including camp staff must comply with AB506. This must be completed before camp each year.
NOTE: This training is in addition to The Laurel Foundation’s training on Mandated Reporter.
Thank you and looking forward to CAMP!
